Hu Ge’s fans have recently come to his defence, after many criticised his recent statement supposedly trivialising his past dramas.
The whole issue sparked after the actor participated in an interview at his alma mater, the Shanghai Theatre Academy on 10 October, and said that he often felt extremely bored on set while filming “Chinese Paladin 3” in his 20s.
Saying that he felt that acting in such dramas “was so meaningless and childish,” he admitted that this was a very real experience at the time.
However, he frankly stated that young professionals just entering the industry have to be able to support themselves, and that one must first do their current jobs well and accumulate experience before gradually pursuing their artistic ideals.

His statement sparked some backlash, especially from fans who came to knew him from the said franchise, with some saying that he was being ungrateful to the production team that cast him at the time.
However, a majority of fans have now defended the actor, saying that the statement was taken out of context.
They stated that Hu Ge was simply using his personal experience, after a student of the academy confessed that filming short dramas for over ten hours a day made him feel lost and meaningless about life.
Hu Ge has also expressed his gratitude for that period in his career, saying, “It allowed more people to know me and gave me more options on my acting career path.”
