It was revealed that actress Ahn Ha-young is departing from the new season of her Netflix drama, “The Trauma Code”.
The news was announced by Netflix on 1 September, saying, “Out of respect for the actress’s wishes, Ha Young will not appear in the sequel to ‘The Trauma Code.'”
The Netflix series is a medical drama depicting the exhilarating adventures of a genius doctor. Season 1 was released last year and received love from viewers both in Korea and overseas. Ha Young gained recognition for her role as Cheon Jang-mi, a nurse on the severe trauma team, and had been expected to return for the sequel alongside Ju Ji-hoon and Choo Young-woo.
However, in August, the actress received backlash after revealing that she comes from a family of doctors spanning four generations, as netizens found that her great-grandfather was Ahn Sang-ho, who worked as a doctor during the Japanese colonial period.
Questions subsequently arose online over allegations that he had engaged in pro-Japanese activities at the time.
Ha Young later apologised, saying, “While personally looking through the relevant materials, I learned about my great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese activities. I reflect on the fact that I spoke lightly about my family history without properly understanding the history of our country, which endured the painful period of Japanese colonial rule.”
She added, “I take his wrongdoing very seriously, and as his descendant, I sincerely apologise.”
