You can now call him Dr. Andy Lau, as it was revealed that the Hong Kong superstar has been conferred an honorary Doctor of Letters by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).
The multi-hyphenate star was recognised in a ceremony held on 10 August for his outstanding professional achievements and remarkable contributions to society as revealed by Professor Wei Bingjiang, President of Hong Kong Baptist University.
In his speech, Professor Wei praised Andy for his genuine passion for the performing arts, his rigorous and professional work ethic, and his generosity, which set a new standard for the entertainment industry and ensured that professional artists and creators receive the attention they deserve.
“More importantly, he is humble and enthusiastic about giving back to society. Through various charitable channels and the foundation he established, he nurtures young people and supports disadvantaged groups, constantly inspiring those in need and illuminating their path forward,” he added.
Following the ceremony, the actor participated in the “In Dialogue with Dr. Andy Lau” session, engaging with over 700 Baptist University students and faculty. The dialogue also featured renowned film director and 2023 Baptist University Honorary Doctor of Letters recipient, Dr. Ann Hui.
