Despite winning her first Magnolia Best Actress award, Yang Zi said that she will not just rashly take on roles with drastically different characters just for the sake of proving that she is a good and versatile actress.
The actress, who sat down with BRTV recently, stated that she is grateful to have played the role of Bai Ju in “Born to be Alive” at the right age, but that she never thought of transforming her career because of this role or that script.
She said that she often sees many people talking about stepping out of their comfort zone, but in her view, it’s not about stepping out, but about expanding one’s comfort zone to see if there are more possibilities.
“For example, when I was a child star, I could only play children’s roles. Then when I was in my 20s, I had idol dramas, and that’s what I was going to do. Now I’m in my 30s, so I might have to play some roles that are different from before,” she said.

Yang Zi said that what she can do is to try her best through her performance to make every character she plays distinct from one another.
“I hope that as I grow older, I’ll continue to be able to try more roles. Whether it’s films, TV, serious dramas, historical dramas, or costume romance, they’re all the same to me. I don’t really distinguish between serious dramas and idol dramas. What matters to me is simply doing justice to every role I play,” she added.
