Choi Hyun-wook recently admitted that the chance to work with award-winning actor Choi Min-sik was the reason why the new Netflix series, “Notes from the Last Row” meant a lot to him.
The actor, who plays a college student in the new psychological thriller adapted from a stage play by Spanish playwright Juan Mayorga, said that he had admired the “Oldboy” star since he was young.
“I never once thought that I would be on equal footing with him, so I just tried to do my best in the role that I had been given,” he said.
Choi Min-sik plays the role of a disillusioned literature professor Heo Mun-oh, who becomes more and more obsessed with the talent of a student sitting in the back row of his classroom.
The actor stated that working with the veteran actor was a lesson in itself, and that he had to go a little crazy for his character.
The young actor also added that it was astounding to be able to witness Choi Min-sik’s performance, saying, “In the final scene of episode six, he overwhelms the bust shot with only his collapsed, timeworn face. I thought to myself that this is what a legendary actor looks like.”
The drama has been released on Netflix since 26 June.
