Chinese pop star Jane Zhang recently revealed that she had caused event organisers to be fined due to her tendency of improvising extra songs during commercial performances to indulge her fans.
On 21 June, Jane revealed on social media, “Given the excessive improvisations I’ve done in the past, the organisers were fined. Today, before going on stage, they specifically told me not to do any more improvisations.”
“I probably won’t be doing any more improvisations at commercial performances in the future,” she added.
She also attached a video of herself improvising a song, and humorously commented, “I guess this video shows me being stubborn like a Libra.”
It is understood that the organisers of two recent showcases that Jane performed in were penalised after she improvised songs that were not permitted, drawing public attention.
It was revealed that according to China’s “Regulations on the Administration of Commercial Performances,” an event organiser can be fined up to RMB 30,000 if a commercial performance alters the content of an approved programme without authorisation and fails to resubmit for approval.
Since typical commercial variety concerts usually only apply for three to four fixed songs, Jane’s impromptu performance was considered as an unapproved addition, which led to the organisers being penalised.
