After a year of preparation, Huang Xiaoming, who took the doctoral entrance exam for the second time, has successfully gained admission!
On 10 June, the Shanghai Theatre Academy announced its list of candidates to be admitted to its doctoral programme in 2026. Huang, with a total score of 271.34, was among those admitted, becoming a doctoral student in Arts Management/Drama Planning at the academy this year.
In response to the good news, Huang posted, “Thank you everyone. Finally. Actually, I was very nervous!”
In 2025, the actor’s name appeared for the first time on the list of candidates for the doctoral entrance examination at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, applying for the same research direction: Arts Management/Drama Planning. He applied with equivalent undergraduate qualifications and scored 89 points in the first subject to enter the re-examination.
However, in the list of candidates to be admitted that was subsequently announced in June of the same year, Huang unfortunately did not manage to get admitted. In an interview at the time, Huang responded, “Let’s fight again next year.”
He has repeatedly expressed his determination to pursue a doctorate, saying, “I want to be the first PhD-holder in my family.”
