Zhang Ruoyun has recently denied reports that he is one of the more than a hundred artistes who supposedly has signed on to allow his likeness and voice to be used by a new AI platform from iQiyi.

Back on 20 April, iQiyi announced that more than 100 artistes had agreed to join the artiste database of iQiyi’s professional film and television production platform, Nadou Pro. Soon, the topic “iQiyi is crazy” became the number one trending topic on Weibo, and related news also appeared on multiple trending topics.

Some users questioned whether the platform generated AI video content without the artistes’ AI authorisation, and several artistes denied signing any AI-related authorisation contracts.

This include Zhang, who released a statement via his studio saying that they had not signed any AI-related authorisations and that their legal department was handling the matter urgently.

On the same day, Zhang’s global fan club also issued a statement opposing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to imitate his image and voice.

In addition to Zhang, other stars who have denied joining the database include Wang Churan and Yu Hewei.
