Prince Chiu has recently admitted to evading military draft, after becoming the latest star who has been questioned on suspicion of such.
The singer, real name Chiu Sheng-yi, confessed to have paid NTD 300,000 to 400,000 to fake hypertension in order to get away from enlisting in the military.
His tactic reportedly was similar to that of Golden Bell Award-winning actor Hsueh Shih-ling, using a “blood pressure monitor” to forge medical records.
After leaving the district prosecutor’s office, Prince, facing a large number of media inquiries, suddenly bowed 90 degrees and said, “Thank you everyone!” before leaving with his agent.
In response, his management company Magpie Entertainment stated, “Prince Chiu joined the Magpie team in 2020. This incident is a mistake caused by his youthful behaviour, which he has openly acknowledged and deeply reflected upon.”
“Based on our years of working together, Magpie Entertainment will accompany and assist him in handling the follow-up matters and will fully cooperate with the relevant judicial investigation procedures.”
The draft evasion scandal started with Darren Wang, who was arrested in February last year. Investigators later traced several other entertainers who did similarly, including Hsiu Chieh-kai, Kunda Hsieh, and Chen Bo-lin.
