After winning at the Hong Kong Screenwriters’ Guild awards last week, Zhang Ziyi received yet another accolade in Hong Kong, this time at the 19th Asian Film Awards.
The actress, who attended the more muted ceremony in West Kowloon on 15 March, expressed her joy at being the recipient of the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award.
Zhang recalled being in Hong Kong to receive her Best Actress award for “The Grandmaster” in 2014 and stated that she felt more relaxed returning to the awards ceremony this year.
“Hong Kong used to have many paparazzi, but they’re gone now! Communicating with the Hong Kong media now feels friendly, and the focus is on film, which makes me much more relaxed,” she said.
Having acted in many roles and also directed, Zhang looks forward to filming realistic, contemporary films, and hinted that a new film is already in preparation, urging everyone to stay tuned.
She continued, “If I were an actress, I’d want to choose roles with soul and interest. Directing is something I’m required to do, and it’s very demanding. I have to act while simultaneously watching behind the camera. It’s like a split personality. However, if I come across a good script, I’d like to try directing again.”
