Following criticisms of her “questionable” concert props, it was revealed that Jolin Tsai has decided to forgo her giant python and money pig for her show in Shenzhen.

The pop diva kicked off her “PLEASURE” World Tour at the Taipei Arena at the end of last year, with a hefty investment of NTD 170 million in creating various large-scale props.

However, some audience members felt that the props were bizarre, with some claiming it had religious interpretations and a feel of a cult. The props, however, did turn viral and attracted attention towards Jolin’s shows due to its bizarre nature.

Nonetheless, to avoid further controversy, Jolin’s team replaced many of the props during her concert in Shenzhen on 7 March.

These include the highly-debated giant python, which was replaced with a boat; the golden pig that sprays fake money, which the team decided to forgo and spray the banknotes directly from the stage instead; as well as the cakes with her face that were replaced with strawberry cakes instead.

These props were no longer seen on stages in China, much to the disappointment of many fans, who felt that Jolin’s hard work had been wasted.

It was speculated that the changes were made to pass censorship in China.
