Charmaine Sheh has recently dismissed the notion that her new TVB drama, “Themis” has plagiarised “Juvenile Justice,” a 2022 Korean series starring Kim Hye-soo.
The actress, who appeared at the promotional event of the drama in Tsuen Wan on 29 March, was asked about the similarities pointed by netizens, as both dramas revolve around a juvenile court, with the lead being a judge/magistrate.
To that she said, “Juvenile delinquency is a problem in every country, and I hope that this drama can guide teenagers and give them a chance to reform through appropriate punishment.”
Charmaine revealed that this was her first time acting in a legal drama, and that she had originally wanted to play a lawyer but ended up playing a judge. In order to cultivate a serious demeanour, she dared not laugh during filming and even avoided talking to the other actors on set.
In “Themis,” Charmaine plays a female judge who makes a wrong judgment in an accident case, which leads to tragedy. In order to correct her own mistakes, she becomes a juvenile court magistrate and educates and redeems a group of juvenile offenders.
Meanwhile, in “Juvenile Justice,” Kim Hye-soo plays a judge who is known for her dislike of juveniles and gets appointed as a judge of a juvenile court.
