Renowned singer and music producer John Yuan (Yuan Wei-jen) has recently passed away.
The news was confirmed by his family in a statement that read, “Hello everyone, John chose to leave us today. We respect his wishes. He passed away peacefully and is now free.”
“We will take him back to Taipei to be buried with my father, in a place he knew well with mountains and water. Fortunately, he left behind many songs. You can listen to them when you miss him, when you’re driving, when you’re sad, and when you’re at peace. He is everywhere. Thank you to all the friends who helped and cared for him. He left with your warmth.”
John, a man with exceptional talent, was known for composing many iconic songs for artistes like S.H.E, Power Station, Na Ying, and Faye Wong.
Following a shift of his career to mainland China, John fell into a coma one afternoon in 2018 while recording a programme. He was later diagnosed with brain tumour and underwent surgery.

In 2020, he was admitted to the intensive care unit again due to a fall. After being bedridden for a long time, he was diagnosed by doctors to be in a vegetative state in 2022. In November 2025, the producer was hospitalised again. After examination, it was found that his white blood cells count was high and he had lung inflammation. He was hospitalised for observation and passed away at home on 2 February.
He was 58.
