Chinese short drama actor Cao Tiankai has sparked the anger of Thai netizens for his comment made during a livestream.
The actor, who interacted with fans while getting his hair done recently, revealed that he was invited by some of his celebrity friends to travel to Thailand.
He then added, “But I’m actually a bit afraid to go, worried that I might be sold there.”
Cao said that he’s the kind of person who doesn’t think things through when he goes out and can be abducted easily.
“If someone says to me, ‘I have candy, this is for you,’ I might go with them. I might get off the plane at 10.00 am, and disappear by 10.30,” he joked.
He also said that he prefers traveling in China, and that he hasn’t even explored all of China yet.
These remarks sparked outrage among many Thai fans, who felt his statements were inappropriate, disrespectful and derogatory towards Thailand.
Many announced they would no longer support him. One said, “Please don’t make judgments about a country you’ve never been to,” while another posted, “I hope his dramas aren’t imported to Thailand.”
It is noted that back in January, actor Wang Xing was abducted by a Myanmar-based fraud group after he was lured into an acting job in Thailand.
