Shawn Dou (aka Dou Xiao) recently made his first appearance in public, after denying rumours of marital woe with wife and heiress, Laurinda Ho.
On 4 November, the actor attended a launch of a friend’s company in Xi’an, looking to be in very good spirits. Dressed in a suit and tie, his wedding ring on his right hand particularly eye-catching under the lights.
During the event, Shawn did not offer any further comment regarding the previous rumours of marital discord.
It was back on 1 November that Shawn and Laurinda decided to release a statement denying any issue in their marriage, with the actor writing on Weibo, “Hello everyone! First, I apologise for the online uproar these past two days, which has taken up public resources. Secondly, we originally didn’t want to respond to these unfounded topics, but the situation has become increasingly absurd. Therefore, we hope everyone will not believe or spread rumours. Thank you.”
Laurinda also reposted his statement, adding that their relationship is stable.
Rumours of marital discord had been circulating for some time. On 18 October, Tiffany Chen, wife of producer Charles Heung, released a short video titled “Women Should Not Marry Down,” recounting a case of a wealthy woman marrying a male actor, adding that the couple were going through a divorce.
While Tiffany made no mention of any names, many speculated it to be Shawn and Laurinda’s marriage that is being referred to. Laurinda is the daughter of the late casino tycoon Stanley Ho.
