Niki Chow may be a popular Hong Kong actress to many, but to her son Morris, she is a retired police woman.
The actress, who spoke about her five-year-old son recently, said that Morris is slowly growing up, but is yet to fully understand what his mother actually does for a living.
As she has served as an ambassador for the Road Safety Patrol and played a police officer in dramas like “Sergeant Tabloid,” Niki said that she has kept her police beret at home and has photos of her in her characters’ uniform.
This, she said, made her son believe that she is a retired officer.
“When he asked me, I didn’t know how to answer, so I just told him I used to be one. He’s still young, so it’s very hard to explain what the performing arts industry is, so he tells his friends, ‘Mummy is a retired police officer,’” she said.
Niki then laughed and admitted that she was not deliberately hiding it.
“After all, I played a police officer in dramas, so in his eyes I carry some authority. He’s a bit afraid of me. And at home we have a prop baton and he’s really scared of that stick. Just having it placed there intimidates him,” she said.
Asked when she will tell him the truth, Niki said that she will wait for him to discover it on his own.
“He really likes the police, and if he wants to become a police officer in the future, I won’t stop him,” she added.
