South Korean comedy man Kim Kyung-wook, who gained popularity through his character Tanaka, revealed that he has been a victim of music piracy by a Chinese music company.
Kim shared this on Instagram, saying that he discovered that a Chinese music company has been rearranging famous songs and newly registering them on Instagram (Meta), which has led to the original ownership of the songs being forcibly transferred.
This includes his viral hit, “Good Night Ojosama,” which he collaborated with YouTuber Needmorecash as the duo ASMRZ and is still getting likes and views a year after it was released.
He also shared a screenshot showing the song registered in Chinese on a Chinese music platform, adding, “I’m currently communicating with the distributor to find a solution. I hope other artistes will also be cautious, as they may experience similar situations.”
A similar issue surfaced in the past, after several Chinese record companies were found to have altered and registered many Korean songs on YouTube as if they were the original versions, including Lee Seung-chul’s “The Western Sky”, IU’s “Tear drops in the morning”, g.o.d’s “Road”, and Brown Eyes’ “Already One Year”.
