Following his arrest for military service evasion, Taiwanese actor Hsiu Chieh-kai recently released a statement to apologise for the situation.

The actor, who was one of the four celebrities detained by the police in its third round of investigation regarding military service evasion, expressed, “I have fully cooperated with all investigations by the prosecutors. I deeply regret any momentary misgivings in the past and will humbly accept the judicial authorities’ review in the future.”

As he was handcuffed and taken away by police in front of his daughter, Hsiu also expressed regret over the situation, saying, “As a husband and a father, I feel very guilty for causing my wife and children to be frightened and worried.”

“I am fully aware that as a public figure, my words and actions are subject to public scrutiny. I am deeply sorry for setting a bad example because of this incident. Military service is a national obligation, and we must face it with integrity and work together to uphold the fairness and justice of the system,” he said.

He also implored the media to allow some space for smooth judicial process.

According to sources, it was alleged that Hsiu paid money to pretend that he has high blood pressure, and was deemed eligible for alternative service. However, he did enlist in May 2016 at the age of 33, and was assigned to the New Taipei City Civil Affairs Bureau for alternative service.

However, after five months of service, he was discharged early due to wife Alyssa Chia’s second pregnancy.

The other three celebrities arrested were Chen Bo-lin, Lollipop F’s LilJay, and Energy’s Chang Shu-wei.
