Eleanor Lee’s new drama, “The Journey of Legend” was revealed to have removed all promotional materials that featured the actress following the recent audio leak scandal.
The Singaporean actress – who has been based in China since 2016 – was in hot water since last week, after an audio clip was leaked by someone claiming to be her former assistant, of her allegedly saying that she is not pursuing fame but financial gain, and that most people in China “are idiots”.
It is noted that the recording features a lot of background noise and muffled words, and that whether or not it was Eleanor’s voice could not be confirmed.
Despite the unclear situation, the drama reportedly has erased her from all publicity-related matters. It is said that the crew is also considering using AI to solve the problem of her appearance in the drama, which reportedly will cost the production a huge amount of money to do due to her significant role in the series.
It is noted that both the Singaporean actress and her agency have already addressed the issue, with the latter saying that Eleanor has always respected and loved Chinese culture. They stressed that she has been actively studying the Chinese language and taking part in TV and film productions.
She then reposted the statement and expressed, “I’m sorry for the controversy caused by matters concerning me and for occupying public attention. I was deeply shocked when I heard the audio in question – those words were not uttered by me.”
