If there is one thing that Yao Chen is not a fan of when it comes to promoting her work in recent years, it would be the kind of things she and her co-stars are asked to do that has nothing to do with their movies or TV dramas.
The actress said as much recently in a recent interview, saying that she often encountered embarrassing situations when going on promotional tour, such as being asked to dance, sing or record short videos.
“It’s just that we don’t know what we are doing, and it doesn’t seem to have much to do with the content of the movie,” she said.
Yao said that while she has been told that the method is more down-to-earth and allows people to know more about them and watch their movie, she also realised that the opportunities to talk about the creative process and things related to the film are getting few and far between.
This, she said, weakens the audiences’ enthusiasm for discussing the drama.
Reception to her thoughts are mixed, with some expressing that they understand how dancing and doing embarrassing things would be hard for actors. Others, on the other hand, said that these promotional tactics are a very popular way to attract attention.
