Michelle Yeoh recently took to social media to mourn the loss of Pope Francis, who passed away on 21 April.

Sharing a couple of photos and a video of her meeting the late Pope on Instagram on 21 April, she wrote, “A gentle soul has left us. Pope Francis was a beacon of humility, compassion, and courage. Never afraid to speak up for the most vulnerable, and always reminding us to walk with grace and kindness.”

The Oscar winner, who was the Global Road Safety Ambassador for the UN, continued, “I will forever remember his warmth and his unwavering support for our UN road safety efforts. His compassion truly moved the world. May his spirit live on in every act of love we give to others. Rest in peace, Holy Father.”

The news of Pope Francis’s passing was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church at 9.45am Easter morning. It was revealed that the death was caused by a cerebral stroke, followed by “irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse”.

His funeral Mass will take place on Saturday 26 April 2025, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Square.
