Mickey Huang has admitted to charges of child sexual exploitation, albeit partially, during his first appeal hearing at the Taiwan High Court.
The former TV personality, who appeared at court on 26 March, was represented by his legal team in the majority of the proceeding, where he faces allegations of possessing 2,259 sexually implicit images involving minors, as well as seven sexually explicit videos involving minors.
Mickey was seen arriving at 2.15 pm, wearing a blue top and a white hat. When asked by the media whether he pleaded guilty or not, or whether he apologised to the victims, he did not respond and quickly walked into the courtroom.
It is noted that the Taipei District Court previously sentenced him eight months imprisonment as well as a fine of NTD 100,000 for violation of the Child and Adolescent Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act, which many have already criticised for being insufficient.
Following the sentencing, Mickey’s legal team announced that they will be making an appeal.
During the hearing, Mickey argued that he “did not know they were sexual images of minors” when he downloaded them, sparking anger among netizens.
At the end of the court session, the judge ordered that the court session would resume on 14 May. Mickey bowed to the media before leaving the court and getting into his car.
