South Korea’s entertainment industry has decided to suspend its shows and movies as a part of the national mourning period that will last until 4 January

Various shows have already announced its temporary suspension, including MBC, which had cancelled its “2024 MBC Entertainment Awards” originally scheduled to be held at 8:30 pm on 29 December in order to broadcast emergency news special reports.

In addition, the MBC Drama Awards, which was originally scheduled to be held on 30 December has also been cancelled, and the same goes to the KBS Drama Awards, which was scheduled to be held on the evening of the 31st.

In addition, many KBS TV programmes, such as “Boss in the Mirror”, “2 Days and 1 Night”, “The Entertainer”, and “Gag Concert” were announced to be temporarily cancelled due to considerations of national sentiment and social atmosphere.

Others that have confirmed to halt broadcast include the music show “Inkigayo”, “Running Man”, and “Please Take Care of My Refrigerator” among others.

On 29 December, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft belonging to Jeju Air flying from Bangkok to South Korea with 181 people on board crashed on landing at the Muan International Airport. Only two of the 181 people on board survived.
