Malaysian baker Syabira Yusoff has recently been named the winner of the 2022 series of “The Great British Bake Off”.
The 32-year-old, who won for her Showstopper orangutan and a rainforest sculpture, bested 29-year-old Abdul Rehman Sharif and 30-year-old Sandro Farmhouse.
“I can’t believe it,” she said, following her victory. “It’s unbelievable, this is the biggest achievement in my life. All the hard work, all of the trial and error, it’s all worth it. I’m very, very proud.”
“I’m coming out as a new person after this competition. I became more confident and I trust my instinct,” she added.
Syabira also dedicated her win to all the women, saying that it has been a while since a woman won the title. She works as a cardiovascular researcher in London.
Judge Paul Hollywood praised the baker for her creation, saying, “Syabira can be a bit of a risk taker with her flavours, and it’s worked. She is an incredible baker.”
