Andi Eigenmann recently took to social media to thank everybody who expressed their concern for her aunt Cherie Gil, who passed away on 5 August.
The actress, who shared the post on social media on 7 August, stated that Cherie passed away on 5 August in her sleep after nearly a year of battling cancer.
“Cherie was diagnosed with a rare form of endometrial cancer in October of last year after deciding to relocate to New York City to be closer to her children. She then underwent treatment at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York,” Andi revealed.
However, due to Cherie wanting the whole thing to be kept private, nobody in the family shared the news with the public, she added.
“Cherie fought bravely against her illness, with grace and strength. Despite her struggles she always managed to exude courage and never lost her trademark sass, wit, and infectious humour, or her larger-than-life personality. She spent her last days surrounded by family and loved ones,” she continued. “While we are deeply saddened by our loss and still mourning her passing, we are incredibly moved by the outpouring of love and support for her and our family; evidence of just how many lives Cherie touched.”
Fans and friends alike took to the comments to express their condolences, including Anne Curtis, who wrote, “Deepest condolences to the whole family, Andi. How I wish I had videos of my convos with tita Cherie. Sending big hugs to whole family…”
The daughter of singer-actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, actress Cherie Gil was most known for her antagonistic roles including Lavinia in “Bituing Walang Ningning”, Carmela in “Bituin”, and Darna’s archnemesis Valentina.
She had three children, Bianca and Raphael, with violinist Rony Rogofff, and Jay from a past relationship with actor Leo Martinez.
Her last appearance was in “Legal Wives”, playing the role of Zaina Guimba.
