Although Season Three in the “Bridgerton” series should revolve around the second son Benedict, it was revealed that the Netflix series has decided to skip ahead and focus on the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Jess Brownell, the new showrunner who took over after Chris Van Dusen departed from the series, explained, “The books really focus on one romantic pair at a time and maybe the siblings have a little cameo here and there but they don’t have full stories.”
“In that way, even though we’re reversing the order of the books, I think all the people you would expect to see — Benedict, who is book three, he will be a vital part of Season 3.”
As for the other lead characters from the first two series – Daphne and Anthony, Brownell said, “We want to keep seeing all of our Bridgerton siblings. We feel like those moments when the whole family is together is what really makes the show and makes all of us, I think, want to be a Bridgerton. Yes, you will definitely be seeing Daphne, Anthony, and Kate.”
As to whether season 4 will be about Benedict or if they will skip ahead to Eloise, Brownell said that producer Shonda Rhimes is still planning to have eight seasons to represent all eight siblings.
Prior to the new announcement, it was revealed that Ruby Stokes, who played the sixth Bridgerton sister, Francesca, is replaced by Hannah Dodd – signifying a bigger role that the character will play in season 3.
