It seemed like a sign for Christian Bables to stay, after his movie was enlisted in the Metro Manila Film Festival just as he was about to leave the Philippines to start a new life abroad.
The actor recently recalled the moment when he was told that his movie made it to this year’s MMFF on social media, saying that he had decided to book a one-way flight to the US when it happened.
“I got a message from director Perci Intalan that “Big Night!” got included in the MMFF. He asked me to postpone my trip, thinking that I was only going on a vacation,” he said.
Christian also said that during the Gabi ng Parangal (Awards Night), he told Intalan and director Jun Robles Lana that he seemed to have lost the joy of giving life to a character, and that he was planning to create a new life in the US.
“When I finally saw our film, I was reminded of my purpose. I was reminded of how fulfilling it is to give life to Dharna. The joy of being the character. And the triumph my heart and soul feel whenever I give voice to the likes of Barbs, Intoy, Samuel, Chef Calix, Iron, etc. I didn’t know what God’s plan was, but only one thing became clear to me. I want to continue to deliver meaningful messages through my art. I hope here in our country, for our country, if we continue to be given the opportunity,” he wrote.
He then thanked the organisers of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival and the panel of jury for recognising his love for the craft.
Christian won Best Actor for his role in the said movie. However, this is not the first MMFF accolade he had bagged, after winning Best Supporting Actor in 2016’s “Die Beautiful”.
In “Big Night!”, Christian plays a gay beautician who is determined to clear his name after finding out that he is included in a drug watchlist. The film also won Best Picture as well as Best Director for filmmaker Jun Robles Lana.
