Two Filipino movies have been selected to make their world premiere and compete in the upcoming Tokyo International Film Festival.
Festival darling Mikhail Red and another frequenter Brillante Mendoza will have their movies, “Arisaka” and “Resbak”, respectively, go head-to-head in the main competition and to hold their world premieres at the said event.
“Arisaka” stars Maja Salvador and Mon Confiado and revolves around a policewoman who goes into hiding under the protection of indigenous people – after she and her team of police escorts who were protecting a witness are attacked by assailants, leaving her as the hunted sole survivor.
The director also took to Instagram to express his happiness, writing, “Proud to announce that my 7th feature film Arisaka will have its World Premiere in the Main Competition section of the 34th Tokyo International Film Festival! Thank you to the awesome team who made this film possible.”
On the other hand, the synopsis of “Resbak” (Payback), starring Vince Rillon, Nash Aguas, and Jay Manalo, reads as follows: “Chased by police, bike thief Isaac asks his boss for help but gets the cold shoulder. He then plans vengeance against the boss… ‘Payback’ depicts a man caught in a slum’s crime ring.”
The Tokyo International Film Festival will be running from 30 October to 8 November.
