Ivy Chen recently revealed that she was pregnant while filming the series “The Awakened” years ago, with Roy Chiu and Derek Chang.
The actress, who spoke to the media at the promotional event for the series, shared that she and Roy trained for two months before filming began. However, she told no one that she was more than five months pregnant during the first phase of filming, which took place before production was halted by the pandemic.
Ivy said she was only worried about affecting the filming schedule at the time and didn’t dare tell anyone. In addition, her figure made it easy to hide her pregnancy, which was why the crew did not find out.
Asked if her husband was worried about her condition, she laughed and said, “I only told my husband when I was almost four months pregnant.”
She then explained that she herself only found out she was pregnant when she was almost three months along.
“The Awakened,” which wrapped filming years ago, follows Chou Yi-bai (played by Roy Chiu), a man from 1944 who was cryogenically frozen for over half a century after an underwater volcanic event. He miraculously wakes up in a sleeping pod in the modern era, saves his grandson (played by Derek Chang), and moves in with him as they navigate the modern world and uncover past secrets.
The series will officially premiere exclusively on iQiyi International on 13 November.
