Seo Yea-ji is set to return to the big screen through the movie, “Geumwoldo”.

The news was announced on 4 November by her agency B.Wave Entertainment, saying that she will play a character named Kim Ji-hoo, who goes to investigate a series of mysterious incidents in the remote island of Geumwoldo.

The film is inspired by historical records of cannibalism found in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. Its story revolves around an isolated island and the closed-off community living there.

Baek Dong-hoon, who directed “Le Grand Chef: Kimchi Battle,” will helm the project.

It was back in 2021 that Seo Yea-ji became embroiled in controversy over her personal life involving her former boyfriend, actor Kim Jung-hyun. Allegations surfaced that she had influenced his behaviour on the set of a television drama, leading to accusations of gaslighting. Other allegations, including school bullying, falsifying her academic background and mistreating staff, also emerged.

However, the actress denied claims that she had manipulated Kim and maintained that the other allegations were also untrue.

Filming for “Geumwoldo” is scheduled to begin in mid-November, with a theatrical release targeted for 2027.
