After it was pulled out from theatres earlier this year, it has been reported that Jackson Yee’s movie, “Peng Hu” (aka “The Belief”) is facing another similar situation, but this time before it is even released.
It was reported that the movie, which was supposed to be showing in the summer prime time slot on 25 July in China, has now been withdrawn six days before its release.
Reports are saying that the movie was pulled out after receiving a request from relevant authorities, and that the producers will be releasing it again at a later date.
The official notice also indicated that all promotional and pre-sale activities for the film have been suspended, and digital distribution and master disc production have also been halted.
Notably, the movie had already released a new trailer for the 25 July slot prior to this development.
“Peng Hu”, which is set against the backdrop of the historical event in 1683 when Admiral Shi Lang led the Fujian navy to attack Penghu, was originally scheduled for release in February. However, it was quietly withdrawn from the Lunar New Year release.
The movie co-stars Wang Xueqi, Du Jiang and Hu Jun among others, and is directed by Cheang Pou Soi.
