Michelle Chen has spoken up for the first time about her divorce from mainland actor Chen Xiao, whom she had been married to for nine years prior to their separation last year.
The actress recently appeared on a variety show, where she was asked the reason for her divorce. In response, her manager said, “Because she felt unhappy in this relationship, so she can move on to the next one. Why can’t she?”
Michelle then shared, “There is definitely some regret, but people only have one path, so they can only move forward. Giving up or lying down won’t make things better. You have to make sure that you are getting better and better before things can possibly improve.”
The “You Are the Apple of My Eye” star said she still believes in love, but that believing in love and believing that love will last forever are two different things.
“Love is wonderful in the moment. It can bring you happiness and make you feel that the world is colourful. I firmly believe in this. But believing in love does not mean that it will last forever. My parents’ marriage did not last long either. I have been mentally preparing myself since I was very young that love will not last forever,” she said.
She has also expressed her willingness to look forward to new relationships, but added that she currently has no plans to get married again.
“Because it’s not easy, to be honest. And maybe now, when it comes to love, I’m more focused on the feeling in the present moment,” she added.
Michelle met Chen Xiao on the set of “The Romance of Condor Heroes” in 2013. The two tied the knot in 2016 and had a son together before ending their marriage last year.
