Wanting Qu recently opened up about her past struggle with breast cancer, admitting that it was the reason that she had been away from the limelight.
On 18 July, the singer-songwriter shared a series of posts on Instagram, writing, “I’ve held my tongue for so long, waiting for the right moment to share my story. Today, I’m opening up – hoping it can help someone who needs it. Please be kind. Wish everyone a beautiful day.”
In the series of photos shared in the post, she revealed that her mother’s imprisonment for crimes that she maintained she was innocent of in 2014 really broke her, and that she went from the highest point of her career to a placer “darker than I ever imagined.”
“Then at 36 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2020. The cancer was invasive and I needed to have surgery immediately. I entered survival mode and did everything I could to fight for my life. For a brief moment, I felt angry at the world and sorry for myself,” she admitted.
However, Wanting said that it quickly turned into action, with her focusing on what she could do to heal.
“The hardest decision of my life was choosing between keeping the appearance of my left breast or letting her go to protect my future health. I chose health over aesthetics and underwent a single mastectomy with fat closure,” she said, adding that she even cut her hair short to mark her battle with breast cancer.
Wanting said that she has been cancer-free for six years now, and is now in a relationship with her boyfriend River.
“I love the person I’ve become today. I’m grateful for all the struggles, suffering, and pain I’ve been through, because they’ve given me a bigger heart – to love harder, care deeper, and give back more. I choose to love everyone, friends or foes. We all deserve love. Sending love to everyone,” she added.
Finally, Wanting announced that she is releasing her new album, “Love Letter,” saying that it is specially dedicated to her supportive fans.
