Huang Shanshan, a lawyer and long-time friend of Taiwanese singer David Huang, has taken to social media to express her sadness and suspicion over news of his passing.
In a statement posted on 14 June, Huang said she found it hard to accept the news of David Huang’s passing, describing the whole incident as “bizarre and unacceptable.”
“A few years ago, when I was seriously ill, David took me to Hong Kong to see some doctors. He and his girlfriend were there for me through the most difficult time of my life. Later, he also fell ill, and we were there for him too, starting to exercise and focus on our health. In the last two years, he has been exercising very seriously and was getting healthier! However, I never expected such devastating news…”
Huang stated that given David’s sudden passing in Hawaii — which has shocked Chinese-speaking communities around the world and was announced by his sisters via a lawyer in Taiwan — the cause of his death and the unusual circumstances that reportedly occurred beforehand are so perplexing that they are extremely difficult to accept.
“His close relatives and friends in Taiwan find it hard to believe. David’s family includes not only his two sisters, but also his mother and two younger brothers. His family, as well as all of his fans, have the right to know the truth. While the family is grieving, they also hope to clarify all outstanding questions,” she posted.
Huang noted that David’s girlfriend of 31 years, as well as his family and close friends, only learned of his death on 2 June through media reports on 14 June – a full twelve days later. This made the circumstances all the more difficult to comprehend.
“I myself was also one of Mr David Huang’s closest friends for more than twenty years, like family to him, and I have served as his attorney for many years. After obtaining authorisation from his family, I will further investigate the cause of Mr David Huang’s death and seek to clarify the related concerns,” she added.
