Months after going to trial over the breach of contract lawsuit filed by her former manager, it was revealed that the court had ruled in favour of Cecilia Cheung instead.
On 16 June, the Hong Kong High Court ordered her former manager Yu Yuk Hing and his company AEG Entertainment to pay legal costs, after failing to prove that the actress has not honoured her contract with them.
Yu and his company previously filed a lawsuit claiming that the two parties had signed a global exclusive management contract and film contracts between July 2011 and May 2012. Yu alleged that he had advanced HKD 42.76 million in film fees on the condition that Cecilia star in six films.
However, he claimed the actress failed to fulfil the contract, prompting his company to sue her for breach of contract.
Cecilia’s defence team stated that the project was never officially finalised, therefore there was no issue of refusing to film. She also denied receiving the advance payment alleged by him.
The defence also denied the actress ever signing a contract with Yu, and questioned whether the document was forged, stating that the signature on the contract was not hers.
