It was recently revealed that Meng Meiqi is ready to return to the limelight, two years after she accepted her hiatus to detach herself from her management.
The singer, who made her music entry in 2016, was revealed to have ended her contract with YH Entertainment officially in February, after signing with the company following her debut.
It was reported that the original contract included a clause that stipulated that if the artiste accepted any resources provided by the company during the contract period, it would automatically trigger a one-year renewal mechanism, which was equivalent to indirectly binding the artiste’s right to choose.
Unexpectedly, Meiqi seemed to have suddenly disappeared from the entertainment industry in 2024, rejecting all work offers from her company, including endorsements, variety shows, and commercial performances. This, many speculated, was a way for her to not trigger any automatic renewal clauses.
Speaking to the media at an event recently, the singer said that she can finally decide what kind of music to make and what route to take. She also announced on the spot that she would start her personal tour, completely breaking free from constraints.
