Zhang Ziyi is set to make her directorial debut with a new movie called, “Youguo Hai’an Yibai Mi” (translated as “Swam 100 meters Across the Shore”).

The film, which is written by Li Yuan of “Better Days” fame, will have the actress also starring in the lead alongside Wen Qi, Mark Chao and Taiwanese star Wu Kang-ren.

The film is from the perspective of a woman named Sun Zhouyu, who, after her grandmother Zhang Yuzhen passed away, traced the old woman’s arduous journey across Anhui and Fujian to Taiwan to find her lost father.

It was also rumoured that Tian Xuning might be joining the cast, after netizens noticed that Zhang suddenly followed the actor’s personal Weibo account and vice versa.

Zhang was last seen in the 2024 Peter Chan movie, “She’s Got No Name.” She also voiced the character Ronal in the Chinese version of “Avatar: Fire and Ash”.
