Charmaine Sheh recently admitted that while she once thought about marrying and having kids, the thought has long been buried now that she is 50.
The actress recently sat down for an interview with good friend Toby Leung, where she admitted to have already made a will, and plans to leave her estate to three close relatives.
When asked if she would consider having children if she were to meet the right man now, Charmaine responded incredulously, “Now?” and added that the possibility would be very low.
She then explained her reasons for the incredulity, including the issue of physical strength. Believing that it is important to have children during one’s young age, Charmaine said that she might not have enough energy to cope with taking care of a child anymore.
Secondly, she said, balancing career and family would be extremely difficult, in addition to balancing the time between children and husband.
“I often feel that it’s quite remarkable for a career woman to balance family life, and I don’t think I could manage it,” she said.
Charmaine said that while she feels envious seeing Toby’s kids running up to her and saying how much they missed her, she also couldn’t imagine the hardship of having to get up early in the mornings to take the kids to school.
The actress said that if she could go back 20 years, she might choose to get married, but now seeing her close friends working far harder on their families than on set has gradually diminished her longing for marriage.
Charmaine said that she now prefers to be a carefree single woman, spending more time with her aging mother, living in the moment, and no longer forcing relationships.
