It was revealed that South Korean-Canadian filmmaker Maggie Kang has been honoured with the Okgwan Order of Cultural Merit at the 2025 Korea Content Awards.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency held the ceremony on 10 December at COEX in southern Seoul, where they recognised 24 individuals and 15 outstanding works that contributed to the development of South Korea’s content industry this year.
Maggie was revealed to have been awarded the cultural medal for her contributions to the “global expansion of K-culture, K-pop, and related consumer industries” through her work of co-directing “Kpop Demon Hunters”, Netflix’s most popular animation to date.

It is noted that the animated feature has become the most-watched movie on Netflix, with 541.8 million plus hours of streaming globally.
The Order of Cultural Merit has five grades, with the Okgwan Order ranked fourth.
