Jackie Chan recently admitted that he and son Jaycee Chan have an estranged relationship that went from being seen together to not even a phone call a year.
Sharing this piece of information at the promotional event of his new movie, “Whispers of Gratitude,” the 71-year-old action star admitted for the first time that his past belief in “a strict father produces a filial son” was wrong, causing their relationship to plummet.
“I used to scold my son whenever I saw him and I would talk about him on TV. I never said a kind word to him,” he confessed.
He said that he has now realised that he had used a wrong approach all along and should have let Jaycee express himself freely.
Jackie further added that this kind of interaction with his son over a long period of time has caused his son to gradually become fearful. However, the actor said that he has gradually let go of his past attitude and no longer forces his son to change.
It is noted that Jaycee has become more private in recent years following his drug arrest in the 2010s.
Aside from Jaycee, Jackie also has a daughter, Etta from his affair with former Miss Asia, Elaine Ng.
