A fashion brand has recently stepped up to clarify a misunderstanding concerning Gao Yuanyuan’s supposed use of a stand-in to shoot a variety show.
The whole issue started on 15 December, after netizens posted photos of Gao walking around Chengdu’s Yulin vegetable market in a red sweater and white pants, accompanied by French Michelin-starred chef, Chef Guantan.
The two strolled through the market, attracting many citizens who stopped to take photos with their phones.
However, a netizen later commented that they had seen a woman wearing the same style with the said chef at the same location prior to Gao’s appearance at the market. The netizen said that a group of lighting technicians also followed behind them, but Gao Yuanyuan herself was not seen at the time.
This sparked speculation among many netizens that Gao might have been filming the show “Chinese Restaurant” and is using a body double. Others mocked the actress, saying that this is the first time that they heard a star using a body double for a variety show.
However, the misunderstanding was quickly clarified by the clothing brand Edition via Weibo, stating that Gao Yuanyuan was not filming a variety show, but rather a brand advertisement for them.
They explained, “For creative filming purposes, Chef Guangtan arrived in Chengdu in advance to explore local flavours. During this period, he enthusiastically participated in our pre-production work. In order to respect public space order and improve the efficiency of the production team, we arranged personnel to conduct professional location scouting and lighting tests, so as to deliver a high-quality final production.”
Other netizens added that the woman seen on location is what they called a lighting double, who tests the blocking and lighting for Gao so filming can begin immediately upon her arrival.
