The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee has elected Chang Chen as its new Chairperson.

Chang, who recently won Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards for his performance in “Lucky Lu”, is succeeding Mark Lee Ping-bing upon the conclusion of the latter’s four-year term.

Mark, who himself succeeded Ang Lee back in 2021, expressed, “After years of reflection and observation, I believe that the Golden Horse must stay innovative and energetic, and so must its chair. The candidate who came to my mind was Chang Chen, whose cinematic achievements speak for themselves and whose ability to evolve with the times is especially rare.”

On the other hand, Chang, who said that a summer theatre production directed by Sylvia Chang for the Gosh Foundation was the inspiration for accepting the role, expressed, “Through Mark’s explanations and those of CEO Wen Tien-hsiang, I began to reflect: beyond acting, what more could I contribute to cinema? With the professional Golden Horse team in place, I felt reassured in accepting this entirely new challenge.”

“At this moment, the classic line from Forrest Gump came to mind: ‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.’ I shouldn’t refuse; perhaps I should be like Forrest Gump, keep running, and hope that the next Golden Horse Awards will still be a Golden Horse Awards,” he added.
