Zhu Yilong has recently expressed his elation over being nominated at the Golden Rooster Awards.
The actor, who is nominated Best Actor for his performance in Chen Kaige’s “The Volunteers: The Battle of Life and Death,” said that he is honoured to play his role as Li Xiang, a political instructor of the 1st Battalion, 188th Regiment, 63rd Army of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army in the Battle of Taiyuan.
“Whether it was ‘Lighting Up the Stars’ or Li Xiang, every nomination isn’t just a recognition of me personally, but also of the character and the entire production team. Being nominated again is already something that makes me both very happy and deeply honoured,” he said.
Saying that Li Xiang is a complex character who has both personal and national dimensions, Zhu admitted that the more serious the subject matter, the more cautious he becomes in portraying the role.
The movie, based on Lan Xiaolong’s novel “War and Sacrifice,” revolves around the Taiyuan battle in the fifth campaign of the Korean War.
