The Arena of Stars at Resorts World Genting was alive with warmth, nostalgia and the timeless sound of one of Denmark’s most beloved bands, Michael Learns To Rock (MLTR), on Sunday night. The special event, titled “Michael Learns To Rock: Encore All The Hits in Malaysia,” celebrated their enduring legacy with Malaysian fans as over 4,000 fans were treated to an enchanting 90-minute show.
The concert kicked off at 6:15pm with “Someday,” an optimistic start that immediately set the tone for the evening. From there, they launched into crowd-favourite “Sleeping Child,” a song that has remained a staple in their repertoire. The energy was warm and fuzzy, and the audience’s enthusiasm was contagious as they sang along passionately to every word.
What truly made the evening meaningful was the connection between the band and the audience. Frontman Jascha Richter was the perfect host as his calm, sincere interactions and warm demeanour captivating the audience. He expressed heartfelt appreciation for Asian fans’ support over the past three decades. Throughout the night, he engaged with the crowd, sharing stories and creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that made the concert feel personal. The audience, in turn, responded with enthusiasm, singing loudly and proudly with each song.
Crowd favourites like “25 Minutes,” “The Actor,” and “You Are the One I Love” had the entire arena singing in unison. The band even showcased their rockier side with “Wild Women,” adding a dynamic edge to the evening’s performance.
As the show approached its end, the band played “Paint My Love,” a song that has touched countless hearts over the years. Naturally, the crowd erupted in chants of “Encore! Encore!” True to the concert’s theme, the group graciously returned to the stage. They played “Take Me To Your Heart,” followed by the timeless “That’s Why (You Go Away).” It was a perfect conclusion to an evening of nostalgia and good vibes.
The entire night was a celebration of MLTR’s musical journey, from their early hits to their enduring appeal. And that’s why great melodies and heartfelt lyrics never go out of style.
