It looks like Esther Yu is not escaping criticisms anytime soon, as her recent appearance in Thailand has sparked a new wave of backlash from netizens.

The singer-turned-actress, who has been embroiled in several controversies in recent months, travelled to Thailand earlier to fulfil several obligations, including product endorsement and the promotion of her new drama, “Speed and Love”.

However, netizens were not at all impressed, after she made an appearance at an event in a glamorous green dress, despite the fact that Thailand is currently in mourning following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother of Thailand.

It is noted that the public is encouraged to wear subdued colours like black, grey or dark blue for about 90 days to mourn the Queen Mother, and hence Esther’s choice of wardrobe is deemed disrespectful by netizens.

“It’s during the national mourning period, doesn’t she know that? And she still dressed like that?” one netizen commented.

She was also criticised for not being prepared enough, with netizens claiming that she relied on translation most of the time. Many compared Esther to Zhao Lusi, who came prepared in order to greet and communicate with Thai fans in 2023.
