Real Huang recently surprised many by announcing that he is retiring from the music industry as a singer.
The former FIR member recently shared his decision on social media on 13 October in a post titled “Ah Qin’s Next Chapter”, saying that he is officially stepping down from his identity as a singer to become a full-time father and music teacher.
“As he approaches the age of 50, this is a major decision made for the sake of his children and family. As a ‘singer’ perhaps there’s no need for a farewell concert. But the titles of ‘lyricist, composer, music producer, and educator’ have long been his true identity over the past decade,” he wrote.
“Many of his peers in the music industry have also become parents. When they share their lives with each other, they often find themselves torn between ‘accompanying their families’ and ‘pursuing their careers.’ If they focus on work, they often miss time with loved ones; if they focus on family, they worry their careers will stagnate. There’s no right or wrong. Only choices.”
Real stated that his two kids are now in primary school, and that he has always imagined himself spending weekends with them making music together, and now he will get to do that beginning 2026.
“So, this isn’t a retreat. There’s nothing sorrowful about it. On the contrary, he’s excited. It’s about shifting towards a life of happiness and freedom. He’s thought about this for a long time. Creating music behind the scenes and being there for his family are also a kind of achievement,” he added.
Real said that he isn’t sure whether he will regret his decision, but that as an adult, he has to make choices and move forward.
