After announcing that she is leaving her Weibo account, Zhao Lusi’s RedNote (Xiaohongshu) follower count has now reached over 23 million.
The actress announced her departure from Weibo back on 13 August, after she was accused of commercial interest in her effort to promote small-scale agricultural products. Some netizens claimed that some of the products she promoted are linked to a company owned by a close friend.
Despite the authorities confirming that she did indeed hold the official title of “Rural Support Ambassador”, the rumours did not die down, which led to a frustrated Lusi initiating the account deletion process and announcing that she is leaving Weibo, where she has amassed over 30 million followers.
However, despite having left Weibo, Lusi said that she plans to reduce her reliance on social media to interact with the outside world.
With her RedNote account getting more and more followers each day, she has now become the first to surpass 20 million followers on the said social media platform.
