Yang Yang has recently dismissed the notion that he was retiring or taking a sabbatical from work, after waiting two years before returning to TV with “The Immortal Ascension”.

In an interview with the media on 12 August, the actor spoke about his two-year absence from the limelight, stating that he just stayed out of the spotlight as people didn’t seem to like him that much.

It is noted that Yang Yang was previously criticised for his performance in the 2023 drama, “Fireworks of My Heart”, with netizens blasting everything from his acting style to the logic of the plot.

In addition, as authorities cracked down hard on the entertainment industry’s exploitation of fans, many top-tier celebrities began deregistering their affiliated companies. Yang Yang’s company, co-owned with his father, also underwent corporate changes, changing its status from “active” to “deregistered”, and drew significant public attention.

Instead of facing the backlash, Yang Yang decided to reduce his exposure, suspend his appearances on variety shows, and turning down commercial activities.

Speaking to the media, the actor said, “In fact, I haven’t appeared in the audience’s field of vision very often in the past two years, because some roles were not so effective at that time, and I also felt that people didn’t like me that much during that period, so I came out less and met everyone, and tried other roles with my feet on the ground and played them well.”

He then compared his acting career to a “wave line”, believing that life cannot always be at the peak, and it is equally important to go down the mountain and enjoy the scenery.
