After a slew of flopped movies, Yang Mi can now breathe a sigh of relief that her latest film, “The Litchi Road” is doing very well at the box office.
It was reported that the movie, which garnered a 7.7 on the Douban score when it was released in China on 18 July, has now exceeded RMB 100 million at the box office, with Yang Mi’s character attracting viewers’ attention.
Based on the historical novel written by Ma Boyong, Yang Mi plays the role of Zheng Yuting, the wife of Li Shande (Dapeng), a minor official in the Tang Dynasty who is accidentally assigned to be the lychee envoy for the birthday of Concubine Yang.
Her performance as Zheng Yuting was also praised by the likes of producer Yu Zheng, who said, “Yang Mi is really amazing. She has grown up and has no trace of any of her past roles. She acted so well.”
The former TV ratings queen has moved on to movies in the past few years. However, her recent films and dramas like “Nothing Can’t Be Undone by a Hotpot” and “In the Name of the Brother” did not do well with the audience.
Yang Mi will be seen next in “She’s Got No Name”.
