Shu Qi recently expressed elation over her first directorial effort making it to the Venice Film Festival.
Sharing the good news on social media, the actress posted that the film, “Girl” (aka “Nuhai”) has been shortlisted for the main competition of the 82nd Venice Film Festival in 2025, and will have a chance to compete for the highest honour, the Golden Lion Award.
“Thank God, thank the universe, thank “Girl” and everyone I met along the way,” she enthused.

Speaking to the media, Shu Qi said, “I was so shocked that I screamed like crazy in the hotel! Happy, joyful… I feel like I’ve won an award. Being shortlisted is an affirmation of ‘Girl’!”
She also thanked her mentor Hou Hsiao-hsien, saying, “Without him, there would be no Girl,” as well as her team and filmmaker husband, Stephen Fung.
Starring 17-year-old newcomer Bai Xiao-ying, the upcoming movie is expected to be released in Taiwan at the end of the year.
